The 10th & 11th; The worst my back has ever been.

The 10th of September.

I think I have learned that if you have degenerative disc disease, you cannot sit at a computer for four hours without some lasting effect. I had an appointment at the chiro this morning, and Trine found that my entire spine had seized up again. Sitting upright in a bad chair for that long without any breaks put too much pressure on the spinal column, and now it's really fucking unhappy. She released what she could, but she recommended ice pack and rest today. I said "So no gym this afternoon?" and she said no, so that was off the table.

As per her instructions, I sat with the ice pack against my back as soon as we arrived home, then after lunch, went upstairs for a hairwash. Then, instead of going to the gym (as I had planned), I lay down on my back with my visor over my face, listening to the new episode of Do The Right Thing and having an accidental, tiny nap.

Back downstairs, I have had a square of some new fancy dark chocolate with coffee in it, and did some crocheting of my chunky kitten blanket. God knows when we might get any more, but we will have blankets ready when we do!

I think I'm going to get the ice pack again now. I would like to go to the gym tomorrow, but I'll be in my wheelchair for most of Thursday and Friday, and I'd rather I wasn't in total agony for all of that time, so rest and ice might take priority.

The 11th of September.

Fuck, I think this is the worst my back has ever been. I spent my whole morning trying to make it feel better, and I think it worked a little bit. I woke up at six because it hurt, and spent an hour and a half trying to find a comfortable position. I had to get up at half seven to go to the bathroom, then went back to bed and eventually fell asleep for another hour under my blanket. I got up just before nine, and staggered downstairs in my pyjamas.

Once I'd had my breakfast, I got Mommy to put some Voltarol on the affected area, and waited for that to soak in, doubled over in my armchair. I think its help was minimal, so then I got the ice pack and lay on the floor with that underneath me for twenty minutes. By then, it was nearly midday, so I stayed downstairs until after I'd had lunch.

This afternoon, I climbed the stairs, feeling a bit more mobile. I tried on the outfit I'd imagined for Friday, was thankful that it worked, then put on some joggers and a jumper and lay on my bed listening to The Guilty Bugle in the dark.

At about four, Alison came over with Harry, and we had a lovely hour with him roaming around the floor or standing up or sitting on our laps. He is so big now! I think I say that every time I see him but he keeps growing! He can move around the floor with determination, although he's not technically rolling. Still, you can see he knows where he wants to go.

Right, back to the ice pack.
